Loans In Canada When Collecting Unemployment Insurance

Although the applicant on this application is not unemployed and is not applying for a loan they have asked a very serious questions about whether consumers can obtain loans in Canada when they are collecting unemployment insurance. Normally we would not even post this kind of application, but since it may be of interest to many people who are unemployed, we thought that it deserved an answer.

The reality is that it will be very difficult for someone who is unemployed to find a lender to loan them money while unemployed. However it really depends on the specific situation and the details about the application. Some people may be able to find a lender for a loan while unemployed. A few examples will help to illustrate.

If a friend or another family member is willing to cosign for the loan, then a loan might be approved. The cosigner must be aware that if the principle person does not repay the loan, then the cosigner is responsible to repay the loan in full.

Many people will use credit cards as loans. Unfortunately most credit cards carry very high interest rates on any unpaid balance. The total interest payable can add up quickly on credit cards.

If you have equity in your home that is not encumbered by other debt, this may be another choice for many consumers. Some lenders will advance home equity loans up to as high as 75% of the value of the home as determined by an appraisal of the home, less any existing mortgage or loan that is registered against the home. Again home owners should be aware of the risk associated with being unable to repay the loan. Failure to pay could result in foreclosure of your home.

At various times there may be loans available for retraining to learn new skills. If you are carrying a lot of high interest debt with a short amortization, consolidating your debt with a low interest loan and a longer term amortization can reduce your monthly payments and reduce your total interest cost. However being unemployed adds another challenge to arranging for these types of loans.

Check with a broker to assess whether they are aware of lenders willing to provide loans to consumers when they are unemployed.

Extra information here please (some detail):: Hello, I am not applying for a loan in Canada when collecting unemployment insurance. I filled in the questionnaire to find out if lenders would lend money to people who are in fact collecting unemployment insurance. I work at the university and several of my colleagues and myself were discussing whether it was possible to borrow money when you are unemployed and whether it made any difference whether or not the applicant was actually collecting some kind of income, whether it was unemployment insurance or some other income.

Our collective opinion was that no lender would ever lend money to someone who was not working and could not repay the loan. This included unemployment insurance income. This may seem like an odd application, which I guess it is. Please make no mistake this is not a serious application for a loan. We are merely trying to find out if you would lend money to someone who was unemployed and had the following profile.

Note to Lender :: we assumed that the person was applying for a small loan of $5000 and needed the money to help him and his family pay a few bills, utilities and some groceries.  This person has been out of work for a few months and is managing to pay all his bills from a combination of savings and unemployment income. His wife works; however between the two of them, they are having a difficult time to meet all of their commitments.

Our fictitious person is actively looking for work and will take just about any kind of work that he can find. They have a home with a small mortgage balance remaining and they have been careful not to use their credit cards. Their car is fully paid for and is 5 years old so other than regular maintenance it should last them for some time. The loan will help them get through this tough spot; however what they really need is for the applicant to get a job that pays enough money.

All of this is pretty easy for someone who is asking this question to suggest that the applicant get a job. Lately it has been very difficult to find work so we have to assume that this unemployed person is going to remain unemployed for some time. Can you review this scenario and let us know if lenders would be willing to consider this application for a small loan.

I have been applying on jobs constantly for 2 months and have yet gotten a job, although I have confidence that I will find work as I am a Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic. We could afford to make payments of $100.00 to maybe $200.00 a month for this loan. I know I asked for $5000.00 but close to that would be good also.
    Thank you,

Speed: Consilodate payday loan debt, moving expenses

Credit: Poor, had an id theft issue during past year

    Location: Chatham, Ontario Canada

Income: 1110 From ODSP, $50 From Trillium, 25 from GST, 150 from consultant in personal business venture (less than a year) I want to invest in products to improve my marketing abilities and attend trade shows however I do not have the available cash to invest what is needed. Part of this money would be for that. Total monthly earnings - $1335.00

    Reason:

I want to invest in new product line (out this month) to improve my marketing of my personal business to increase my income(my sponsor is making over 60k yearly with team has been doing this 4yrs. Her sponsor has had a million dollar earning team for the last 7 years straight need approximately $500-$1000 for that. I am also moving and had just been scammed over a job I applied for, but was scammed through my bank for 1200. Bank does not feel I had a part in the fraud and can do minimal payments to them to clear it up. my name is clear but had to change banking and my identity was stolen so my credit is negatively affected. I may end up homeless if I cannot pay first and last on a new place to live $1500 in the next week. I want to consolidate my payday loans and debt and have them paid off to one low monthly payment $850

  48. Rob applied for the following loan:

    Loan: 10000

    Speed: ASAP

    Credit: Poor (below 600)

    Location: Ottawa, ON Canada

Income: EI: $940 bi-weekly Once my paycheques regularly start coming in again my take home biweekly is almost $1800.

    Reason:

I have been off work since Nov 15/16 (sick leave).
I returned to work last week on Jan 24/17 on reduced hours to ease back into the job.
But since being off, had a rent payment go NSF and from Nov until current I still owe rent (landlord has been super good about holding off for me) So I currently owe 4 mths of back rent, plus that NSF one (close to $5000 in total), and I would love to be able to pay him back as soon as possible. My car payment lender has been very good as well, and has held off payments since Dec of last year, but now they are taking out double payments until I am caught up (understandable as they want their money as well). I also have several payday loans I’d like to clear up which will alleviate burden.
So as you can see, half of the loan would catch up my rent, and the rest to take care of payday loans, car payments, and just living in general. Also have needed dental surgery that I have been putting off for quite sometime.
This ideally would be paid back over 2-3 years to keep payments decently low, but am open to to other options as well. It would be nice to not have to stress over finances.
Any help you can offer would be so greatly appreciated.
